CALL FOR PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS

The Context: The Congress theme, "Leisure. integral to social, cultural and economic development," provides an opportunity to examine the objectives, processes, contexts and consequences of leisure programming, where.

  • Social Development means enlarging access, choice and healthy communities
  • Cultural Development means affirming and enriching cultural identities
  • Economic Development means achieving sustainable and well distributed growth


The Challenge: Although such goals are laudable, can they be achieved? In both the developed and developing world, there are a number of forces preventing their realization. Thus we need to identify such barriers and constraints and explore how best to overcome them.


Get Involved: Persons interested in participating in the debate and sharing their experience with practices and programs, policies, and research findings are invited to submit proposals to the Congress Program Committee using the Abstract Submission Form.


Submission Notes
The Program Committee is seeking presentations from a wide range of academics and practitioners owners including leisure, sport, recreation, tourism or heritage site managers, policy makers and, project developers, which will produce a program diverse in topics, geographical regions, and formats. Papers by graduate or senior undergraduate students are especially encouraged .There will be a Competition for Best Poster Presentations by student authors (Watch here for details).


Presentation Formats: Can be oral, poster, or group (panel/round table).

  • Practice Based Presentations : Based on a policy, an experiment, a best practice, a strategy, a program, a change implementation, a facility design or any act that can help others to enhance their practice. It answers questions such as < why, what, how > and must describe documented effects and outcomes.

  • Research Based Presentations : Based on a scientific process, including a significant research question, a frame of reference, a methodology, findings and interpretations.

  • Panels
    • Focussed upon a major issue or problem
    • 3-6 invited panellists and a strong moderator
    • short presentations by panellists, rebuttal among panellists, audience participation (optional)
    • moderator summary

  • Round Tables
    • Sharing ideas among 4-12 persons with common interests, managed by an active chair
    • Topics and participants proposed by delegates in advance

Authors are requested to indicate their preference from among the three types of presentation format. This choice is not related to the quality of the presentation but on an author's wish to share information most effectively.



Presentation Notes

  • Poster Presentation: A poster presentation is a display presentation where information is mounted on a poster board and the author attends the poster for a designated time period (about two hours) to answer questions and discuss the material with delegates who are interested in the work. This format provides a unique opportunity for personal interaction and an exchange of ideas about the work that is not available in the oral presentation where time may not permit questions, or where delegates may not feel comfortable asking questions.

  • Oral Presentation: An oral presentation is delivered by its author in front of an audience for a 10 to 15 minute period, including a short question period. This presentation is usually supported by electronically presented information, mainly using presentation software.

  • Panel/Round Table Session: A panel session is based on presentations, discussions and interactions with Congress participants by at least three presenters with different points of view or expertise on a specific topic or question related to a Congress theme. A summary of the topic and approach, and a list of all panellists (including home address), must be included in the submitted abstract.

Abstract Length: Abstracts must be no more than 1200 characters in length (about 30 lines, Times New Roman 12pt) and must include a summary and rationale of the proposed presentation, including relevance to the Congress theme.


Non-theme Proposals: Presentations un-related to the Congress theme will be considered, but proposals related to the Congress theme or sub-theme will be given priority.


Adjudication: Submissions will be evaluated by an international panel of renowned scholars and practitioners on the basis of quality and reflection of the Congress theme.

Special Note: For accepted presentations an author may be asked to present in a different format from that originally requested. This is if space or time restrictions for one format exceed the space capacity of the Congress venue or the time restrictions of the program schedule (e.g., from an oral presentation to a poster presentation, or vice versa).


Deadlines: Submissions will be received from October, 2005 to June 30, 2006. After June 30, 2006 submitted papers are not guaranteed of being processed or accepted if the number of papers already accepted exceeds the capacity of the congress facility or program schedule However, some late submissions may be accepted after the June 30, 2006 deadline if space or time restrictions of the venue or program have not been exceeded. It is the wish of the Program Committee that as many presentations as possible, from as many countries as possible, and with as many diverse topics as possible, are included in the Final Program.


Acceptance and Registration: Authors will be notified by e-mail on or before April 30, 2006 as to whether their submission has been accepted, and in what format they will deliver the accepted paper. Authors will find the day, time and location of their presentation by consulting the final Congress Program, which will be available on the Congress web site by September, 2006. Once acceptance is received, the designated presenter (and all participants for group panels/roundtables) must pay the Congress registration fee by July 30, 2006. After this date, only those registered and therefore published in the Congress Program will be allocated a time slot.
